Shopify plan prices in 2026
Shopify lists four plans for most stores. Prices below are for a US store, in US dollars, from Shopify's pricing page on October 20, 2026.
| Plan | Billed monthly | Billed yearly (per month) |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | $39 | $29 |
| Grow (formerly "Shopify") | $105 | $79 |
| Advanced | $399 | $299 |
| Plus | from $2,500 (1-year term) | from $2,300 (3-year term) |
Shopify says there are no setup fees, and new stores often get a trial and a discounted first months. Plus includes the main store and nine expansion stores; each extra store is $300 a month or a revenue share.
Shopify Payments card rates by plan
If you use Shopify Payments, Shopify is your card processor and you pay its card rate on every sale. There is no extra transaction fee on top.
| Rate | Basic | Grow | Advanced | Plus |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Online card (standard) | 2.9% + 30¢ | 2.7% + 30¢ | 2.5% + 30¢ | 2.25% + 30¢ |
| Online card (premium) | 3.5% + 30¢ | 3.3% + 30¢ | 3.1% + 30¢ | 2.95% + 30¢ |
| International card | +1% | +1% | +1% | +1% |
| In person | 2.6% + 10¢ | 2.5% + 10¢ | 2.4% + 10¢ | 2.3% + 10¢ |
| PayPal wallet | from 3.49% + 49¢ | from 3.49% + 49¢ | from 3.49% + 49¢ | from 3.49% + 49¢ |
Rates change by country. Outside the US, check the pricing page for your own country before you do the maths.
The third-party transaction fee
This is the fee most merchants discover late. When you take card payments through any provider other than Shopify Payments (for example because Shopify Payments isn't available in your country or your account was put on hold), Shopify charges a percentage of each order on top of what that provider charges you.
| Plan | Third-party transaction fee |
|---|---|
| Basic | 2% |
| Grow | 1% |
| Advanced | 0.6% |
| Plus | 0.2% |
Shopify calculates it on the order total, products after discounts plus tax and shipping, and it isn't returned when you refund the order. Shopify also notes that the fee applies to orders paid through third-party gateways even when Shopify Payments is turned on.
What's exempt
According to Shopify's help center, the third-party transaction fee doesn't apply to:
- Shopify Payments, Shop Pay and Shop Pay Installments
- manual payment methods: cash on delivery, bank deposits, cheques
- POS orders, test orders, and draft orders marked as paid or pending
That's why cash on delivery stays popular in markets where cards are less common: there is no processor fee and no Shopify transaction fee on the payment itself. You still pay the courier and lose margin on refused parcels, which is why COD orders need confirming.

Worked examples on a $50 order
Domestic card, US store, standard card, rounded to the cent.
| Setup | Processor fee | Shopify transaction fee | Total fees | % of the order |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic + Shopify Payments | $1.75 | $0 | $1.75 | 3.5% |
| Grow + Shopify Payments | $1.65 | $0 | $1.65 | 3.3% |
| Advanced + Shopify Payments | $1.55 | $0 | $1.55 | 3.1% |
| Basic + a provider at 2.7% + 30¢ | $1.65 | $1.00 | $2.65 | 5.3% |
| Grow + a provider at 2.7% + 30¢ | $1.65 | $0.50 | $2.15 | 4.3% |
| Cash on delivery | $0 | $0 | $0* | 0%* |
*Plus the courier's COD fee and the cost of parcels that come back.
At $10,000 a month in card sales through a third-party provider, Shopify's fee alone is $200 on Basic, $100 on Grow and $60 on Advanced. Moving from Basic to Grow costs $66 more a month (billed monthly) and saves 1% of those sales, so it pays for itself above about $6,600 a month. From Grow to Advanced the break-even is much higher: $294 more for 0.4% saved, about $73,500 a month.
The costs that aren't on the pricing page
- Apps. Post-purchase upsells, bundles, a cash on delivery form, cart reminders and subscriptions are usually separate apps. Their top tiers often run $30 to $100 a month each; see how one checkout can replace several apps.
- Themes. Free themes exist; paid themes are a one-time cost.
- Domains and email. A custom domain bought through Shopify renews yearly.
- Currency conversion and payouts. Your processor may charge to convert currencies or to pay out in another currency.
- Chargebacks. Disputed card payments carry a fee from the processor, even when you win.
How to lower your Shopify fees
- Pick the plan by volume, not features. Compare your monthly card sales × the transaction fee gap between plans with the plan price difference.
- Pay yearly if you're sure you'll stay: it's about 25% less than monthly.
- Keep refunds low. The third-party transaction fee isn't returned on refunds, and refunds still cost processing.
- Count your apps. Several $30 to $100 subscriptions often cost more than the plan itself.
- Offer cash on delivery where it's expected, with a confirmation step, so you don't pay for parcels nobody accepts.
