Conversion rate
1.8%
How it's calculated
- Conversion rate
- = orders ÷ visitors × 100
Example
4,500 sessions and 81 orders give a conversion rate of 81 ÷ 4,500 × 100 = 1.8%. Raising it to 2.2% on the same traffic means 99 orders.
Where conversion is lost
Look at each step: product page to cart, cart to checkout, checkout to paid. A checkout that loads slowly, asks for too much or lacks the payment method the shopper expects loses people who had already decided to buy. Abandoned-checkout reminders recover part of them.
FAQ
How do I calculate conversion rate?
Divide orders by visitors (sessions) and multiply by 100. 81 orders from 4,500 sessions is 1.8%.
Sessions or unique visitors?
Either works if you're consistent. Shopify reports conversion rate per session.
What's a good ecommerce conversion rate?
It varies a lot by price, category and traffic source; cold ad traffic converts lower than returning customers. Track your own trend by source.
How does conversion rate affect ad costs?
Cost per order = CPC ÷ conversion rate. At a $0.90 CPC, 1.8% conversion costs $50 per order and 2.2% costs $40.91.
