How it's calculated

CPC
= spend ÷ clicks
CPC from CPM
= CPM ÷ (CTR × 1,000)

Example

$400 bought 320 clicks, so CPC = 400 ÷ 320 = $1.25. If those clicks came from 25,000 impressions, CTR is 1.28% and CPM is $16.

What a click is worth to you

The most you can pay per click and still break even is your profit per order before ads × your conversion rate. With $20 profit before ads and a 2% conversion rate, clicks above $0.40 lose money. The break-even ROAS calculator gives you the profit per order.

Lowering CPC

Better click-through rate is the most direct lever: ads that are more relevant to the audience get more clicks for the same impressions, which lowers the cost of each one.

FAQ

How do I calculate CPC?

Divide the ad spend by the number of clicks. $400 ÷ 320 clicks = $1.25 per click.

What's a good CPC?

One below the most you can afford: profit per order before ads × conversion rate. That ceiling is different for every store.

Do link clicks and all clicks give different CPCs?

Yes. Platforms count likes, profile taps and expansions as clicks in some reports. For a store, use link clicks to the site.

How do CPC, CTR and CPM relate?

CPC = CPM ÷ (CTR × 1,000). A $16 CPM with a 1.28% CTR is a $1.25 CPC.
